A handful of masks emblazoned with the Georgia State University logo were given to Emory Clark-Holder Clinic last week.

The masks were made by Hometown Quilt Shop, and a trio of Georgia State football players with local ties, Hunter Williamson (Callaway High), Jacob Freeman (Callaway High) and Jamari Thrash (Troup), took part in a ceremony on Wednesday where the masks were handed out.

Jason Dean, a Georgia State graduate and a Hogansville resident, got the ball rolling.

“We were brain-storming about what we could do,” Dean said. “I asked (Hometown Quilt Shop) if they could make some masks with the logo, and I checked with the people at the university to get permission to use it.”

Hometown Quilt Shop owner Penny Willingham was happy to lend a hand.

“(Dean) asked me about it, and we’re making masks for our first responders,” Willingham said. “We’ve already given out more than 5,000. These turned out good.”
