Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia has shut down again due to supply chain issues.

KMMG announced via a statement that it is suspending production for May 26-May 29 due to supply chain issues. The plant was already closed on Monday due to Memorial Day.

Kia has had numerous work stoppages over the last few months due to the effects of COVID-19.

The first stoppage occurred on March 19 and March 20 due to a supply chain issue. On March 30, production was stopped and that continued until May 4, when limited production. 

Over the last three weeks, the plant has only run one shift of production instead of its normal three shifts, according to Patrick Sands, who works in team relations for KMMG.

“We will have more information later this week as we continue to monitor the status of our suppliers,” Sands said.

Sands said there are five active cases of COVID-19 in KMMG employees and another 12 team members have already recovered.

KMMG said it has recently added a daily wellness acknowledgement, as well as testing for symptomatic team members and anyone directly exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case to its mitigation efforts. 

KMMG is also utilizing temperature scans, requiring face masks and is practicing social distancing to keep employees safe. The company has modified seating in conference rooms, the cafeteria and meeting areas and is offering grab and go lunch options.
