The Hogansville Police Department and Georgia State Patrol responded to a wreck at approximately 3 p.m., that resulted in four victims being airlifted to neighboring hospitals.

According to Sgt. Scott Jeter with GSP, a 2008 Dodge Caliber was driving west on Lee Street when the 27-year-old driver allegedly saw a deer and swerved to miss it.

“The vehicle ran off off the right side of the road struck and a tree with the front end,” Jeter said. “At this point I don’t have any evidence that there was a deer involved.”

Jeter said there were a total of six children and the driver in the vehicle, which has a total of five seats.

“It appears that nobody was wearing their seatbelt,” Jeter said. “There are charges (for the driver) pending right now.”

Jeter added that there was a two-year-old in the car that was not in a car seat. He said he could not confirm if the children were related to the driver.

The ages of the children ranged from two to 14-years-old. Three of the juveniles and the driver were life flighted, and the other three children were taken to the hospital via ambulance.

“Nobody appears to be in critical condition,” Jeter said. “A lot of times, I feel like with children, especially children that are unrestrained and have any type of head injuries we’re always going to take precautions. EMS is going to request to life flight to fly them out.”
