Lots of love was spread on Monday as Carl Green celebrated his 26th anniversary as a Walmart employee in LaGrange.

For those who work or shop at Walmart, Green is well-known for his hard work and sense of humor.

“The highlight of Carl’s day is definitely to come into Walmart and greet customers,” said Raven Sartain, Walmart LaGrange Store Manager. “That’s what he loves to do the most.”

Green works Monday through Friday at the store, greeting customers and helping them with whatever they need.

Since Green has worked at Walmart for 26 years, a lot of people have gotten to know him.

“If he sees an elderly person at the door, Mr. Carl is going to rush over there to walk them to their cars,” Sartain said. “One of his favorite things to tell customers is to ‘buckle up.’ That’s really what he loves doing is helping people.”

Green’s official title at Walmart is stockman — helping to push carts back into place and arrange them for easy access to customers. However, Green spends a significant amount of time greeting customers and helping out in any way he possibly can.

“Mr. Carl goes above and beyond every time he is here,” Sartain said.

Green was able to get his job at Walmart 26 years ago when he went through training at New Ventures, a community-based program in LaGrange that helps adults with disabilities find jobs and receive training.  From New Ventures, Green began working with Pathways. After a lot of training, he was able to secure his job at Walmart — a job he’s loved enough to stay at for 26 years.

“He went through a lot of coaching and training,” said Melody Core, Green’s sister. “Finally, he was able to get hired into a job that he could do and that he loved.”

Apart from his job, Green enjoys listening to music and watching television. To celebrate 26 years of service at Walmart, the LaGrange Fire Department made an appearance at Green’s anniversary party to show off a parade of fire trucks because of Green’s love of the sirens.
