William H. Norred — 1949-2020

William H. Norred, Major United States Army Retired, ‘Windy’ to his friends passed away on May 29, 2020. He was born in LaGrange on Jan. 19, 1949, and was preceded in death by parents, Bill and Erlene Norred.

Graduating from LaGrange High School in 1967, he remained active in the alumni activities with close ties to his classmates. Mr. Norred attended West Georgia College graduating in 1971. Following his graduation, he was employed by the Department of Family and Children Services.

William Norred enlisted in 1972 in the United States Army and completed OCS shortly thereafter, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. During his service in the Army, he was stationed in multiple installations in the United States and Germany and was known during his military service years as ‘Bill.’ He retired after 20 years of active service, followed by eight years of affiliated military service.

Mr. Norred’s life was defined by his love of country and military service, love of family and his fellowman, and music. He was an outstanding trumpeter and had a very eclectic taste in music. He was passionately interested in all local and national news events. The charities that he supported were the USO, Wounded Warriors, St Jude and Shriners Hospitals.

William H. Norred is survived by his wife, Doris Norred of Munich, Germany; his daughter, Yvonne Donat of Whitehall, Montana and grandsons, Takota and Dillion Donat; his brother, Rusty and Renee’ Norred of Franklin, Tennessee and their children, Mitch, Andy, Jeff and Zac Norred; his sister, Sally and William Pike of LaGrange, Georgia and their children, Kristin Hays and Spencer Pike; life-long friend, Eddie Tankersley; and his brothers and sisters serving in the United States Army.

No services at this time due to the COVID -9 restrictions on gatherings and travel. A celebration of Mr. William H. Norred’s life will be announced at a later date.
