The city of Hogansville announced its new city attorney Monday night after interviewing potential candidates earlier in the day.

The council voted to hire Alex Dixon, who currently serves as the LaGrange and Hogansville solicitor. Dixon accepted the position Tuesday morning.

Mayor Bill Stankiewicz said Dixon will give his hourly rate to the council and the council will have to approve it at the next city council meeting.

According to the city of LaGrange, Dixon can stay with the city as the solicitor.

Stankiewicz also noted that he can stay with Hogansville as their solicitor as well.

“We are very pleased that we were able to find a local attorney with municipal experience and commitment to the community,” Stankiewicz said. “We eliminated any applicants that didn’t have significant municipal experience and interviewed two candidates for the position.”

Dixon will replace Jeff Todd, whose private practice has represented LaGrange, Hogansville, West Point and Warm Springs for the last several years.

Todd agreed to work full time as in-house counsel for LaGrange in April.

Todd will move into his full-time position with LaGrange beginning July 1.

Until then, he will still fulfil his duties for the other three cities.

Todd said this move means he will leave his private practice as well. Todd will make $170,000 a year as the full-time LaGrange city attorney. Mayor Jim Thornton said in an earlier interview there were times when the city had paid more than that salary in billable hours to Todd’s office.
