Givorns Foods announced on Thursday that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual is an employee at only the Fairfax Store and last reported to work on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

On Sunday, the individual was sent home with a fever. The individual was tested on Monday, June 1, and Givorns was notified of the positive test result late on Thursday, June 4.

Eight other staff members who were either in close contact or had minimal contact with the individual on Sunday were tested. Each of those tests came back negative.

Staff members currently working at the store are also being monitored for symptoms, taking appropriate precautions and practicing infection control to prevent further spread of the virus, according to General Manager Danny Crosby.

According to Crosby, the employee who tested positive for COVID-19 is doing well and recovering at home. In addition, this employee was not involved with any preparation of any food products in the store.

“I wish our employee a quick and full recovery,” Crosby said. “The swift action on the part of the staff at Givorns has helped contain the exposure with them disinfecting every surface possible in the store. We will continue to monitor our employees for symptoms to maintain the health and safety of those in our store.”

“Our commitment is to the people of the community in providing a safe environment to shop and that transparency is key in demonstrating that,” owner Shelvie Givorns added.

Crosby said Givorns Foods has taken significant steps to protect our customers and is committed to flattening the curve. Employees cleaned and sanitized all contact areas including checkout stands, credit card machines, the ATM, shopping cart handles, etc.

“Both stores are doing constant cleaning and sanitizing to prevent any spread of the virus, Crosby said. “The Valley store is now checking all employees’ temperature before being allowed to work each day. Hopefully, this extra protective measure will also help.”
