Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Recently, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) announced that it would allow teams to begin voluntary conditioning workouts for students on Monday. This week schools in the Troup County School System (TCSS) will be entering Phase I of voluntary workouts like many school systems across the state. The system will follow protocols established by GHSA such as student athlete screenings before participation, athletes, including coaches, will be placed in groups of 20, and groups will be the same individuals for each session.

We were excited to go out to some of the local schools and see what they were doing. The excitement could be seen on athletes faces working out Monday as they hit the weights again.

We know, just like many others, Monday has been coming with anticipation and excitement.

It was great to see our schools taking precaution while the athletes got back to the grind.

According to a press release from the TCSS, high school coaches have been preparing to enter Phase I by reviewing conditioning procedures and guidelines, creating the TCSS Return to Sports Guidance package, contacting student athletes who will be participating in Phase I, and gathering the necessary equipment that they will need on-hand, like thermometers.

As coaches and athletes are entering unknown territory, we hope for the best outcome, but know they all have been working hard to prepare for this.

It is truly incredible to see how quickly our local athletes have adapted to the situation and are making the best of it.

As fall sports are just around the corner, summer conditioning is extremely important to prepare athletes for the strenuous season to come.

We look forward to what is to come these next few weeks and can’t wait to see our local athletes back on the field.

To the coaches and athletes, good luck.
