The number of votes has already surpassed the general election total from four years ago.

Elections Manager Andrew Harper said that as of Monday afternoon, the elections office has counted 2,702 early voting ballots and 6,267 absentee ballots.

“There are still 3,000 absentee ballots that have not come in yet and are still out there,” Harper said. “We had an unusually high number of absentee ballots this year, but it is due to COVID. We have never had this many absentee ballots and already have more of a turnout than four years ago.”

All precincts will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday. To find out your polling place, call (706) 883-1745 or visit www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do.

“We are social distancing as much as possible at the polls,” Harper said. “We have a spot for everyone and are doing what we can. We have limited seating in the building. Obviously, everything is a little out of the ordinary due to COVID-19.”
