Charles Crawford is picking up where he left off.

Crawford was having a big senior year for the LaGrange High baseball team when the season was suspended, and later canceled, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Crawford has been able to pick up a bat again this week for his travel-baseball team, the 643 DP Cougars.

The Cougars, an 18-and-under team based in Marietta, are competing in the Battle of the Southeast in Marietta, and they’ve played two games so far.

The Cougars opened with a 10-0 victory on Monday, and they lost to eXposure Prime 7-5 on Tuesday.

Crawford, who is going to play baseball at Brown University, has three hits and two RBIs in the two games combined.

Crawford had two hits and a run scored in Monday’s game, and he had a triple and two RBIs during Tuesday’s game.

The Cougars will complete pool play on Wednesday before the next stage of the tournament begins.

Crawford, who has played for the Cougars for the past three summers, was enjoying a phenomenal season for the Grangers this spring.

LaGrange finished the shortened season with an 8-3 record, and Crawford was hitting better than .600 while getting the job done on the pitcher’s mound as well.

Crawford was a four-year starter in baseball, and he was LaGrange’s starting quarterback the past three seasons.

Donnie Branch, LaGrange’s head baseball coach, felt Crawford was the ideal team leader.

“You look at your best players and they’re among your hardest workers, that’s your best scenario,” Branch said. “He’s the total package.”

Crawford will have a busy summer with the Cougars, and this fall he’ll head to Brown University in Rhode Island to join the baseball program.
