Synda Ogletree will face republican Lewis Davis in the general election for District 3 county commissioner.

Ogletree received 953 votes in Tuesday night’s democratic primary, where she faced Cora Pleasant who received 191. Davis was unopposed in the Republican primary.

“I am smiling and am so excited,” Ogletree said. “I was about to lay down to go to bed when the results came in. All I could do was smile and thank God.”

Ogletree invited Pleasant to join her committee to help campaign for the election in November.

“I think Cora can help us a lot going forward,” Ogletree said. “She is a lot younger than me and can bring new ideas.”

Ogletree said that she hopes the momentum keeps going and the community votes for her in the November election.

“I hope the community is excited and wants a new outlook and change,” Ogletree said. “I am hoping that this community shows that they are united and looking for improvements. There is so much growth in Troup County that we can look forward to.”

Pleasant said she plans to help democratic candidates for county commissioner campaign for the general election.

“I am looking toward the November election and being any type of assistance I can,” Pleasant said. “Synda reached out to me and asked her to be on her committee. I really want to secure that (democratic) seat in November.”

Pleasant said she wasn’t surprised when she saw the results early Wednesday morning.

“She has been in the area longer, and I just wasn’t shocked,” Pleasant said. “I am just looking forward to being helpful in any capacity.”
