LaGrange’s longest running local farmer’s market, Market on Main, will open Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m.

At the market, local farmers sell their produce on the sidewalks surrounding Flagpole Park and along Main Street.

At this outdoor curb market, local farmers sell vegetables, fruits, jams, jellies, fresh fried pork skins, beignets, biscuits, fried pies and fresh eggs to a loyal following of customers along Main Street.

The offerings change throughout the season as the crops are ready for harvest at different times.

“Opening day is always exciting because it is a reunion for the vendors and customers and a welcoming of new vendors,” said Director of Promotions Marketing, Downtown LaGrange Development Authority, Barbie Watts. “For our loyal customers, it is a return to their favorite summer routine. Many tell me that shopping at Market on Main is the highlight of their week.

The vendors also enjoy being located close to LaFayette Square because of the high visibility and the convenient parking next to Flag Pole Park.”

This Saturday will feature local farmers and vendors, including the Alford’s family farm, Luther Beasley Farm, Inner G Soul Food, Willowood Gardens, Malinda Brooks, Edward Brooks, Freita’s Fancies, Shady Gardens, Crave Cookie Company, Holloway’s Pork skins, Emerald Acres Farm, Country Condiments, Gills and Greens and Sweet Slice.

The market operates rain or shine throughout the summer, except during lightning storms.

The last day of the summer market season will be Aug. 29, 2020.

Applications are still being accepted for local growers.

New for 2020, the market is seeking to add local artisans of handmade or handcrafted items such as pottery, wooden bowls or cutting boards to Market on Main. Contact Barbie Watts at barbiew@downtownlagrange.com for applications or more information.
