The Troup County School System is working to ensure school starts on time in the fall by seeking feedback from planning committee members and a community-wide survey.

The first day of school for TCSS is scheduled for Monday, August 10. Back to school plans will be shared Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

In May, the system called a group of over 200 employees, parents, and community partners together to work on a back to school plan, according to a news release from the school system. The task force was broken into subgroups highlighting areas of focus like social and emotional health, instructional practices, technology and health and wellness. Subgroup participants have been meeting weekly to brainstorm the possible options of what school will look like in the fall.

Now, the school system has created a survey for community members to complete as the planning continues. 

The ten-question survey asks for feedback on technology at home, after-school needs and transportation needs. It also defines learning models to help respondents confidently choose the answer that best suits their family.   

Dr. Brian Shumate shared through a video presentation that there are three options for students returning to school:

– All online learning at home with the curriculum provided by the school system.

– A hybrid model with some days at school learning and some days at home learning with curriculum provided by the school system.

– All at-school learning with curriculum provided by the school system.

The survey is available on all school websites, troup.org, and the Troup County School System Facebook page. There will be hard copies available at lunch distribution sites for families to complete, if necessary. The survey will close on Friday, June 19. The school system says that will give the committee members and the TCSS leadership team time to break down the data and provide back to school plans to employees and parents by July 15, 2020.
