The Georgia High School Association executive committee’s much-delayed spring meeting will be held on Tuesday in Thomaston, and the possible addition of a shot clock for high-school basketball is the key issue on the agenda.

If the proposal passes, a 30-second shot clock would begin to be used next season, and it would become a part of all high-school games for the 2022-2023 season.

For the 2020-2021 season, the shot clock would only be used in holiday tournaments and showcase games, and it wouldn’t be used in region games or post-season tournament games.

For the 2021-2022 season, the shot clock could would be used in approved tournaments and showcase games, and it would be used in region games if the regions approved.

Beginning with the 2022-2023 season, the 30-second shot clock would become a part of all varsity games, including ones in the state tournament.

Another proposal that will be voted upon on Tuesday is the creation of a second dead week for the GHSA calendar.

At the moment, official team activities can’t take place the week of July 4th.

The second dead week would begin on the Memorial Day and go through the following Sunday.
