High-school basketball in Georgia is soon going to look a lot different.

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Georgia High School Association’s executive committee, approval was given for the addition of a 30-second shot clock.

The shot clock will be instituted in phases, leading up to the 2022-2023 season when it will be used for all high-school games in Georgia.

There were a handful of speakers offering their opinion before the vote was taken on Tuesday, including Georgia men’s basketball coach Tom Crean who was strongly in favor of the shot clock.

Approval of the shot clock was passed overwhelmingly by the executive committee during the spring meeting in Thomaston.

The shot clock will only be used in holiday tournaments and showcase games for the 2020-2021 season.

The shot clock can be used in region games for the 2021-2022 season, if the regions give their approval, and it won’t be used in the state tournament.

Beginning with the 2022-2023 season the 30-second shot clock will be used in every game, including the state-tournament games.
