LaGrange College’s football team has an adjusted schedule based on changes mandated by the USA South.

Following a meeting by conference leaders on Tuesday, it was announced that fall sports teams in the USA South will only play divisional opponents, eliminating the need for some of the longer road trips.

For LaGrange College, that means it won’t play two teams, Methodist and North Carolina-Wesleyan, that were on its original schedule.

The Panthers will now play an eight-game schedule in the regular season, and if they win their division they’ll play in a conference championship game.

LaGrange College will be in a division with Huntingdon, Brevard and Maryville, while Averett, North Carolina Wesleyan, Methodist and Greensboro will be in the other division.

LaGrange College will play the other three teams in its division twice, once at home, and once on the road.

The first two games on LaGrange College’s schedule will remain the same.

LaGrange College will open the season at Birmingham Southern on Sept. 5 before playing its home opener against Berry on Sept. 12.

LaGrange College was originally going to host Middle Georgia on Sept. 19, but it will instead visit Huntingdon for its USA South opener that day.

On Sept. 26, which was supposed to be an open date, LaGrange College will now host conference foe Brevard.

LaGrange College has home games against Maryville on Oct. 3 and Huntingdon on Oct. 17, and road games against Brevard on Oct. 10 and Maryville on Oct. 24.

The division winners will meet for the conference championship at the conclusion of the regular season.

Tuesday’s decision by the USA South also impacts the schedules for the cross country, volleyball, and soccer teams, who are all supposed to begin their seasons in September.
