LaGrange College’s football schedule has been shortened to six games.

Last week, because of a decision by the USA South, LaGrange College’s schedule was trimmed from 10 games to eight games.

Now, LaGrange College only has six games on its schedule since two of its non-conference   opponents won’t be playing this fall.

On Thursday, the Southern Athletic Association announced that it was suspending all athletic competition until the spring of 2021.

Two of the teams in the SAA, Birmingham Southern and Berry College, were supposed to play LaGrange College this season.

LaGrange College was originally going to open its season at Birmingham Southern before hosting Berry College for its home opener.

Now, LaGrange College’s first game is scheduled for Sept. 19 at Huntingdon College, and its home opener is Sept. 26 against Brevard.

USA South officials decided to split the conference into two four-team divisions, and the teams in each division will play each other twice.

LaGrange College will play Huntingdon, Brevard, Maryville twice, once at home, and once on the road.

The decision by the SAA impacts one local player, Destin Patrick, a red-shirt freshman on the Berry College football team.

Patrick, a Callaway High graduate, played in two games last season with one tackle.

Berry went 9-2 last season and lost to Huntingdon in the opening round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Point University’s football team, meanwhile, will also play a revised scheduled this season of eight games.

Point was originally going to open against Kennesaw State on Sept. 5, but its first game now will be against St. Thomas University on Sept. 12.

If the schedule doesn’t change, Point will play four home games, and four away games.
