A few weeks ago Troup County was identified as the spot with the highest increase in COVID-19 cases by the New York Times.

Now, the NYT is listing Troup County in another category. The NYT says Troup County is No. 3 in the country in decrease of new cases over the last week. The website lists Troup County as having 415 new cases a few weeks ago and 266 this past week, a decrease of 213 cases per 100,000.

Although the NYT specifies the area as LaGrange, it actually means the entire Troup County area, which a NYT editor confirmed in an email to the LDN in June.

While there is good news in the NYT database, the impact on Troup County is also shown. Troup County is listed as the No. 10 hardest-hit metro area in the country per cumulative confirmed cases, ranking above the New York City metro area.

Overall, Troup County has 1,874 confirmed cases and 43 deaths, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. Those numbers reflect total cases since the start of the pandemic.
