After an executive session Tuesday night, the Hogansville City Council announced that Lisa Kelly was hired to be the new assistant city manager.

Kelly has served as the interim city manager for the past six months until a new city manager was hired July 1.

“This will be effective July 1, which is the first day I started,” said City Manager Jonathan Lynn. “She will still maintain her duties as city clerk. She will receive some additional responsibilities as part of the department supervising. We couldn’t be happier now that she is the new assistant city manager.”

Lynn said Kelly has been a major help with his adjustment into the city manager position.

“I don’t know what I would have done these last three weeks without her on board and her knowledge,” Lynn said. “Lisa has been with the city since 2004. That institutional knowledge and that amount that she’s been trained in has gotten her ready for this position. It was a no brainer.”

Lynn said Kelly not only deserved the position but earned it from all her years working for the city.

“I feel like I have worked hard for this position and when they said it was a possibility I embraced it of course,” Kelly said. “I have known all along that I did not want to be the city manager because I have to put my family first, and I knew I would not be prepared for it. But when this opportunity became a possibility, I knew it would be a good fit.”

Kelly is a certified municipal city clerk and certified planning commissioner.

“I will be assistant with public works and other matters going, which isn’t my first time doing so,” Kelly said. “Being the interim city manager definitely did not hurt my experience either.”

In this position, Kelly will deal more directly with planning and zoning within the city of Hogansville.

“That’s what my heart truly loves too,” Kelly said. “I’m looking forward to that part of it, and I’m really excited about that. I can’t wait to see where it takes us. Jonathan has been great so far, and I think it is a great partnership. I think we are going to make a great team together for the city.”

Not only is Kelly a Hogansville native but her family has been part of the community for generations.

“This is my home,” Kelly said. “This is my landing spot. I look forward to seeing it grow and see where it is going to be even five years from now. Hogansville has so much to offer, and it is all coming to fruition.”
