Roughly one-third of Troup County School System students will be attending school virtually in the fall.

More than 3,950 students registered for the TCSS Virtual Academy by Friday’s deadline, according to Public Relations Director Yolanda Stephen. Stephen said there may be a few additional paper applications that have to be counted manually as well.

There are approximately 12,000 students in TCSS.

As of Monday, 2,059 students had registered for the virtual academy, so over the next four days that number nearly doubled.

Students who take part in traditional school will have the option of swapping to virtual learning at any point, according to previous information released by TCSS.

Elementary and middle school students who signed up for virtual learning are required to stay in virtual learning for the first nine weeks before being allowed to swap to traditional learning.

High school students have to remain in the virtual academy for a full semester but will be allowed to swap to traditional school in January.
