Troup County topped a total of 2,000 COVID-19 cases and 50 total deaths over the weekend.

In the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Monday update, Troup County is listed at 2,090 total COVID-19 cases. That number reflects total cases since the start of the pandemic, as there is no official track of active cases. 

Troup County has had 52 total deaths, and in the latest update from GDPH, a 32-year-old female is listed as dying from the disease. In June, a 32-year-old male from Troup County died from COVID-19. Thirty-two remains the youngest age of anyone who has died from COVID-19 in Troup County. 

Based on population, just under 3 percent of Troup County’s population has had a known case of COVID-19. Just over 2 percent of the 2,090 cases in Troup County have resulted in a death, based on GDPH numbers.  

After a decline in new cases per day, Troup County has seen its number of new cases increase over the last week or so. 

Since July 6, Troup County has added a total of 463 new cases, which equals out to 22 per day. As of last Monday, July 20, there were 1,874 total COVID-19 cases in Troup County, so over the last week new cases have increased by 31 per day on average. 

Thirty-five of the 52 deaths are in people who are 70 years old and older. All but nine deaths were people in their 60s or older, according to GDPH. 

Six people in their 50s have died, as have three people in their 30s — two 32-year-olds and a 37-year-old.

Thirty-four of the 52 deaths have been females and 17 males. One of the victims had an unknown gender, according to GDPH.

Thirty-one of the deaths have been in people who classify their race as Black and 20 whose race is classified as White. One victim had an unknown race. 

Twenty-two people who died had an underlying condition, 10 did not, and GDPH lists it as unknown if the other 20 deaths had one. 

According to the Georgia Department of Community Health’s long-term facility report, 20 of the deaths have come from LaGrange Nursing and Rehab and 16 are from Florence Hand Home. 

One resident at Twin Fountains Home has died, according to the same report.
