FRED CLIFTON SMITH 

1928-2020

Mr. Fred Clinton Smith, 91, of Jonesboro, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at his home.

Born Nov. 22, 1928, in Meriwether County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Bryan and Helen Vineyard Smith.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, was a graduate of West Georgia College, and earned his Masters degree from the University of Georgia. He served as principal of Jonesboro High School for many years and retired after serving as an educator for 41 years.  Mr. Smith was a member of Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and had 64 years of perfect attendance.  He was an avid tennis player, and was also a talented woodworker and furniture maker.

Survivors include cousins, dear friends, and countless students that he mentored through the years.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in St. Marks, with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Baptist Church, John Carden , 2725 St. Marks Rd., Hogansville, Gerogia 30230, or to TLC Pet Rescue, Jim Carter, 3198 Jodeco Dr., Jonesboro, Georgia 30236.
