A host of baseball players from Troup County and nearby communities got together on Sunday to celebrate their decisions to play college baseball.

Eleven high-school graduates who were members of the 5 Star baseball organization gathered at Granger Park for a signing-day ceremony.

With the players was Shannon Snyder, who runs the 5 Star teams in LaGrange and Columbus, as well as coach Chad Grant.

Snyder knows how important it is for players to participate in summer baseball if they want to play the sport in college, and his organization gives them a chance to do that on a high level.

Between the teams in LaGrange and Columbus, 29 players in the 5 Star family have signed baseball scholarships.

“Now, with summer ball, it’s something that kids have got to do,” Snyder said. “If kids aren’t playing now-a-days, it’s out of sight, out of mind. Scouts are wondering why you’re not playing.”

Among the 11 signees are one from LaGrange High, and one from Troup High.

Troup graduate Cade Garner signed with Southern Union, while LaGrange graduate Mason Green signed with Marion Military Institute.
