The LaGrange Animal Shelter has 10 new dogs available for adoption after Troup County Marshals charged a father and son with animal cruelty and confiscated the dogs.

According to arrest reports from the Troup County Jail, David Lee Allen, 62, of LaGrange, was charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals. His bond was $7,000, and he has been released.

Arrest reports show Robert Coleman Allen, 29, was also charged with cruelty to animals with a $1,000 bond, and he has been released. Troup County Marshals Chief Lonza Edmondson said Robert Allen was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals.

The dogs were confiscated and sent to the shelter. Even if 10 dogs were confiscated, there may not be 10 charges if some of the dogs were not in bad shape, Edmondson said.

Edmondson said that upon investigation, several dogs were underweight, one had a growth on its back and several were “covered in fleas.”

Animal Services supervisor Chris Bussey said the dogs arrived at the shelter throughout the week and all stemmed from the same case. They have not been fixed and are not up to date on vaccinations, he said. The adoption fee for each dog is $37.50.

Among the dogs are Pomeranian mixes, Chihuahua mixes and a pit bull, Bussey said.
