A LaGrange man has been arrested after he allegedly assaulted and set fire to an ex-girlfriend on Friday morning.

The  LaGrange Police Department arrested 44-year-old Damario Davis Friday morning and charged him with criminal attempt murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, burglary, aggravated stalking and arson first degree.

According to a press release from the LPD, officers found the victim walking down South Greenwood Street at approximately 5 a.m. with second and third-degree burns to her body. According to Sgt. Mark Cavender, 30 percent of the victim’s body suffered major burns to her upper and lower torso.

According to the press release, the victim had returned to her residence between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. on Friday and found that her ex-boyfriend, Davis, had broken into her house. According to LPD, he attacked her when she arrived home. During this assault, she was beaten and kicked and held against her will.

Cavender said that Davis already had a bond order to not go near or be around the victim. He said there was already an active warrant for him after he violated the order in April.

“After a few hours of him beating her and setting her on fire, he forced her into her car to take her to an unknown location,” Cavender said. “They had to stop and get gas at which point she was able to escape and flag us down.”

The victim was transported to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center to be treated for her wounds.

Davis is currently being held at the Troup County Jail on these charges.
