There will be no tune-up games for the Callaway, LaGrange and Troup football teams.

Georgia High School Association executive director Robin Hines has made the decision to cancel all preseason football scrimmages, meaning teams won’t play until the regular season begins in September.

LaGrange and Troup will open the regular season with road games on Sept. 4, while Callaway’s first game is on Sept. 11 against Troup.

Earlier, Hines decided to delay the start of the season back two weeks.

Hines made the decision to cancel the scrimmages following a meeting with the GHSA’s sports-medicine advisory council on Tuesday.

Teams will be permitted to continue practicing while following the GHSA guidelines.

Hines’ decision means six preseason games involving Callaway, LaGrange and Troup have been canceled.

Each team was set to play preseason games on Aug. 21 and Aug. 28 before the start of the regular season.

On Sept. 4, LaGrange and Troup begin the regular season with road games against Upson-Lee and Harris County, respectively.

Callaway’s season opener against Opelika had to be canceled because the season was pushed back two weeks.

Now, Callaway’s first game will be against the rival Troup Tigers on Sept. 11.

Also on Thursday, Hines announced that the competitive cheerleading team has been postponed.

Competitive cheerleading is a fall sport, but it has been pushed back to the winter.

The tentative new start date for the cheerleading season is Nov. 21, with the finals set for Feb. 26-27.
