They finished in style.

After dropping their first two games in the Callaway Classic, the Troup Lady Tigers overwhelmed Trinity Christian 15-3 on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Fields.

It was not only the first win of the season for Troup, but it was Ryan Simpson’s initial victory as the team’s head coach.

“It felt good,” Simpson said, referencing the big win over Trinity. “We needed that.”

Troup opened with a 7-0 loss to Brookstone on Friday, and it lost to rival LaGrange High 5-0 on Saturday morning before getting into the victory column against Trinity.

“This was more of a process to move some players around, and just make sure everybody played,” Simpson said.

After struggling offensively in the first two games, Troup busted out in a big way against Trinity.

Troup was clinging to a 2-1 lead when it broke through for six runs in the third inning, and it added six more runs in the fourth to build a 12-run lead.

Jennifer Albertson had three hits with a triple while driving in three runs, and Kaleigh Rutland had two hits and an RBI.

Leadoff hitter Ramsey Clark had a hit and two RBIs, Haley Kitchens had a triple and an RBI, Casey Sani had a hit and an RBI, and Emilee Johnson drove in two runs.

Kitchens got the start and pitched 2 1/3 innings, and Maggie McDonald finished things off with 1 2/3 scoreless and hitless innings.

Earlier on Saturday against LaGrange, Clark and McDonald did solid work on the mound, but Troup was limited to two hits by Camden Smith.

Clark started and pitched three innings while giving up three hits and three earned runs, and McDonald threw 1 2/3 innings and allowed three hits and one run.

Clark and Sani had Troup’s hits.

In Friday’s opener, Troup was held to two hits, and it also had four errors that led to three unearned runs by Brookstone.

McDonald and Clark each pitched two innings, and Haley Cotton and Johnson had Troup’s hits.
