Troup High’s Jordan Adams is listed as a defensive lineman on the team roster, but he won’t be limited to one spot on the football field.

“Jordan, you’re probably going to see him line up in no less than four or five different positions,” said Troup head coach Tanner Glisson. “We’re going to move him around. We’re going to stand him up. He can play linebacker, he can play defensive line. We’re going to move him all over the place. We really see good things happening for him.”

Adams has been starting since he was a sophomore, and he’s a part of a defensive line that Glisson calls “the strength of our defense.”

In addition to Adams, Zy Varner, P.J. Jones, Christopher Hilton and Xavier Clarke will be helping hold things down on the defensive line.

As for Adams, Glisson said “he’s explosive. He’s 255 pounds, but he doesn’t move like he’s that big. He’s hard to block. He has that knack for getting around the football.”

Adams is eager to get onto the field with his teammates for the season opener on Sept. 4 against Harris County.

The Tigers reached the state semifinals during Adams’ first year as a starter, and he’s getting a similar vibe from this team.

“It has the feeling like when we went 12-2,” Adams said. “Everybody’s hungry. We’ve had excellent practices. We feel confident.”

Adams is a part of an outstanding group of seniors that also includes senior offensive lineman Will Cooley, and Glisson enjoyed watching those two face off on the first day of full-contact practice.

“Those two went at it like I’ve never seen,” Glisson said. “One of them was lined up at nose guard, and the other was a center, and they whipped each other left and right for about an hour. They’re two of our leaders.”

Adams is affable off the field, but when the lights come on and it’s time to play, he’s not looking to make friends.

“I look at it like this is how I’m going to feed my family,” Adams said. “That man in front of me is stopping me from that. After (the game) I’ll shake his hand.”

Adams has been a part of some special moments during his time at Troup.

the Tigers went 9-3 and made it to the second round of the state playoffs when Adams was a freshman, and they set a program record for wins in a season in 2018 when they went 12-2. Last year, Troup went 6-5 and made it to the state playoffs for a fourth consecutive year.

Through it all, Adams has enjoyed being a part of the Troup football family.

“It’s been real fun,” Adams said. “It’s been my life. I love it.”
