A two-hour weather delay didn’t slow down the LaGrange Lady Grangers.

In a Region 2-AAAA softball showdown at Granger Park on Tuesday, LaGrange overwhelmed Shaw 9-1 in a rematch of a second-round state-playoff series from a year ago.

LaGrange (7-3 overall) improved to 2-0 against region opponents.

The game was in the bottom of the first inning when the teams were pulled off the field for a weather delay, and it was two hours before the action resumed.

LaGrange was ahead 4-1 when it ended the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring the run rule into play.

Camden Smith pitched the five-inning complete game, and she held Shaw to three hits and an unearned run while striking out six batters.

Offensively, the Lady Grangers only had four hits, but they also had 11 walks.

Malone Aldridge, who had two of those walks, had a triple and three RBIs for LaGrange, and Madison Dennis had an RBI double and a walk.

Jacee Marable had an RBI, Abby Vanhoose had a hit and two walks, Mariana Ceja had a hit, and Camden Smith, Kaylee Bryant and Kirsten Williams all walked.

LaGrange started quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, with Dennis getting things started with an RBI double, and two other runs scored on passed balls.

LaGrange added another run in the second inning after the delay.

Vanhoose reached on a one-out walk, and she kept hustling and made it to second base, and after stealing third, she scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 4-0.

After Shaw scored to get within three, LaGrange busted it open with the five-run fifth inning.

LaGrange loaded the bases on singles by Ceja and Vanhoose and a walk to Williams, and Aldridge cleared the bases with a triple to make it a 7-1 game.

Marable drove in a run with a groundout to push the lead to 8-1, and the game ended when Kate Asbell scored on a Shaw error.

LaGrange has a non-region game at East Coweta on Wednesday before hosting Carver on Thursday.
