Four Rottweilers and a pit bull were taken from a LaGrange man who was arrested Wednesday and charged with animal cruelty.

Jerry Germaine Green, 33, of LaGrange, was charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals.

He was arrested at midnight on Wednesday and was released later that day around 4:45 p.m. Each charge carried a $1,000 bond.

LaGrange Animal Services Supervisor Chris Bussey said warrants were issued for Green more than a month ago when the dogs were taken. The dogs, he said, were in “deplorable” conditions and were outdoors on heavy chains.

Animal services went out to the property after the Troup County Marshals forwarded them a complaint about the dogs.

Bussey said most of the dogs were underweight. The age of the dogs ranged from puppies to about 3 to 4 years.

Even though, they were in city custody, being held as evidence, Green only officially surrendered the dogs upon his arrest.

Now, Bussey said, the dogs can be sent to rescues or put up for adoption. However, some have long-term health problems that must be addressed first.
