The LaGrange High softball team scored three runs in the third inning, and that was plenty of support for pitcher Camden Smith, who threw a complete game in Thursday’s 3-1 home win over a strong Harris County team.
Harris County scored a single run in the fifth inning on a home run, but it couldn’t put any more runs on the scoreboard against Smith, who gave up five hits while not walking anyone.
LaGrange did all of its scoring during a productive third inning.
Malone Aldridge got things started with a base hit, and she stole second and third before scoring on an Abby Vanhoose single.
After Vanhoose stole two bases, she came around to score on a Jacee Marable base hit, and following a Madison Dennis hit, Holly Lynn’s sacrifice fly brought in the inning’s third and final run.
Harris County got a leadoff home run from in the top of the fifth, but Smith got the next three batters to end the inning.
Harris County got a two-out single in the sixth inning but was unable to score, and Smith retired all three batters she faced in the seventh and final inning.
Aldridge finished with two hits for LaGrange, and Vanhoose, Marable, Dennis and Mary James Stogner each had one hit.
