‘Stop pulling at the wrong things,’ were the words that echoed throughout Highland Country Club Thursday during a Kiwanis meeting.

Motivation speaker Quay Boddie gave the advice Thursday to the Kiwanis members to stop pulling negativity in your life, and find the opportunity to be positive.

“Why are we waiting for somebody else to tell us we’re special?” Boddie said.

“Why are we waiting for someone to tell us that we can do something when we should know within ourselves that we can do anything we want to do. We can be anything we want to be.”

Boddie encouraged members to stop seeking the approval of those around them.

“You’ve got to be able to prove yourself to you,” Boddie said. “Are you getting up every day believing in yourself when your family has given up on you, when your friends have given up on you, when your community has given up on you when your church family and when your husband or wife has given up on you… There is something special about each and every one of you.”

The 28-year-old LaGrange local said he has spent his whole life focused on motivating others and making sure he has a positive impact every day.

“I’ve got to make sure that the things that I love to do are around me every single day,” Boddie said.

“I’m so worried about taking care of other people, which is nothing wrong with that, but what about ourselves? Because if you’re not loving yourself, and you’re not taking care of yourself, how are you going to take care of somebody else?”

He added that surrounding yourself with negativity can destroy your look on life.

“We’ve been pulling at negativity and bitterness,” Boddie said. “We have to be positive always. What your around will be contagious on you.”

Even on the bad days, Boddie said show the same positive feeling and face.

“Every time you see me, I’m gonna be like this,” Boddie said.

“I am not going to be any different. I could be going through the storms of life and you wouldn’t even know. I’m not gonna look like I am mourning. What I am going to do is be positive, I am going to be upbeat and I’m going to be happy about my life and thank God daily.”
