Over the last week, The LaGrange Daily News partnered with CedarCross Media and the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce to host candidate forums for upcoming elections in LaGrange and Troup County.

The first forum was last week and include both candidates for sheriff, plus the county commission candidates. The one this week included four candidates for state representative positions.

We applaud the chamber for hosting these forums, which allow the general public a chance to directly hear from local candidates. Early voting is already underway, and based on the lines at the polling locations, it’s clear that many are taking advantage of that opportunity.

That’s a good thing, but it’s also best if voters are informed.

These forums help undecided voters form an opinion about which candidate falls more in line with their beliefs.

We appreciate all of the candidates taking part as well. We hope they appreciated the opportunity to share their platforms with possible voters.

Each candidate was given two minutes to respond to four questions, and they alternated who went first for each question. The candidates also gave an opening statement and a closing statement.

We were more than happy to play a role via our Facebook audience and plan to continue to utilize that audience to assist with future forums.

Thanks to everyone who played a role for their work in organizing these forums.
