Volleyball season ends for Troup

A short-handed Troup High volleyball team was unable to keep pace with Columbus High on Saturday in the second round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.

In the first round of the playoffs, Troup was able to overcome the absence of three starters against Thomas County Central.

Facing a Columbus team that often competes for state titles, though, Troup came up short, losing in straight sets.

Columbus advances to face Jefferson in the state semifinals, while the season came to a close for Troup.

In Saturday’s match, Columbus won the first set 25-9, and the second set 25-10 before finishing things off with a 25-9 win in the third set.

It was the final match for Troup’s five seniors, Amauriya Brown, Victoria Finley, Savannah Coker, Macy Jeter and Landen Sheets.

The loss brought a successful season to a close for Troup.

Troup finished third in the area tournament to qualify for state, and it went on the road and beat Thomas County Central in straight sets, 25-18, 26-24 and 26-24.

This was the second time in three seasons Troup advanced to the second round of the state playoffs.
