Mr. Claude W. Duffey, Jr., 68, of Blairsville, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at his home.

Mr. Duffey was born Oct. 4, 1952, in Troup County, son of the late Wesley and Betty McCollum Duffey. 

A 1970 graduate of Hogansville High School, he lived in Troup County most of his life before making his home in Blairsville 20 years ago. He retired from the Georgia State Patrol after 28 years of service as a Trooper First Class and Training Officer and was inducted into the Police and Fireman Insurance Association’s Heroes Hall of Fame for his life-saving action in removing an accident victim from a submerged vehicle.  Mr. Duffey was a member of Mountain Grace Baptist church in Hayesville, North Carolina, was a talented guitarist, and enjoyed “pickin” with his friends each Saturday in Union County.

Survivors include his wife, Myra Duffey of Blairsville; sons, Paul Duffey and Amber Milner of Blairsville and their children, Justin, Kolby, Allison, Abbigail, and Ashligh; and Joey Duffey of Blairsville and his son Warren; Claude was preceded in death by his son, Brian, and is survived by Brian’s children Meagan and Everett; and is also survived by his brother and sister in-law, Steve and Debbie Duffey of Harve de Grace, MD.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 30, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. 

The Reverend Terry Rainwater will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, with law enforcement honors provided by the Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday night.
