The LaGrange Police Department has arrested a man for armed robbery and is seeking another suspect who was involved, a LPD press release announced.

Christopher Cato, 22, of LaGrange, has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, the release said.

According to the release, LPD responded to the Motel 6 on Lafayette Parkway around 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. A victim told police she heard a knock on the door of her hotel door and opened it thinking it was a friend.

An unknown black male pointed a gun at her head before taking an undisclosed amount of money and “undisclosed items,” the release said. Cato then allegedly fled on foot. Police reviewed surveillance footage at the hotel and identified Cato being dropped off in a vehicle registered to a woman, Shakorea Smith. Smith was in the room with the other victim and is listed as a victim.

Video footage also shows Cato entering the room, the release said.

“Cato was quickly located and taken into custody where clothing and other items associated with this case were located,” the release reads.

According to the release, witnesses indicated there was a second man who assisted with the robbery. LPD Sgt. Robert Kirby said the other suspect was driving the car.

Kirby wasn’t sure why the get-away car was registered to Smith.

“We’re still looking into the possibility that she may be involved, but we haven’t found evidence to confirm that at this point,” Kirby said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact LPD at (706) 883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at (706) 812-1000.
