Mr. Charles William Maddox, Sr., age 67, of LaGrange, Georgia took his heavenly flight on Feb. 8, 2021. Mr. Maddox was born on July 15, 1953, to the late Jimmy Autry Maddox and Pearl Pettus Maddox of LaGrange, Georgia. Mr. Maddox was known by many names: Gramps, Big āCā, Tuna and Lazarus. Mr. Maddox worked for Roosevelt Institute Warm Springs until he became disabled. His past careers included Dixie Mill, Wall Street Journal and Loftin Fire Extinguishers.
Survivors include his wife of forty one years, Susan Seymour Maddox; daughter, Crystal (Wil) Bailey; sons, Adam (Jessica) Maddox and William Maddox; sister, Diana Butler; grandchildren, W.J. William Bailey, Lillie Bailey, Emma Bailey, Elliana Maddox, Abby Bailey, Abby Davis, Grayson Maddox, Autry Maddox; two special brothers in law, Paul Seymour and Johnny (Darlene) Seymour; a very special aunt, Rosetta (Dean) Lawson who introduced Charles and Susan; Steve Brown, Scott Brown, Shane Butler (Rachelle) and family, Deena Muncy, and Ruth Burris; caregivers, Maurita Wheat and Lisa Jones; his dog Peaches.
Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1979 and then re-dedicated his life at Faith Baptist Church in 1999. He was an active member of Callaway Baptist Church until his declining health. He loved his University of Georgia Football Team, Wrestling and Gunsmoke. Gramps loved family gatherings, his wife and children, but most of all his eight grandchildren.
Mr. Maddox was preceded in death by two grandchildren, his parents, grandparents, Ethel Calhoun Maddox and Albert Maddox, Lonnie Pettus and Hattie Owens Pettus, Dot Kirst, Rufus and Linda Maddox Brown, brother-in-law Rickey Seymour.
Family will receive friends at Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter-Allen-Myhand on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11:00 am at the funeral home chapel. The committal service will directly follow the funeral and will be held at Meadoway Gardens in LaGrange. Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand, 506 Hill Street, LaGrange, 706-884-5626.
