Marshall Morton II passed away peacefully in the late evening of Feb. 11, 2021.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Marshall had three passions. His love for family, LSU football and a good scramble dog.
Marshall was born July 20, 1933 in Columbus, Georgia to Mahala and Henry W. Morton. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1952 and Louisiana State University in 1956, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. His love for LSU was born then and carried forward the rest of his life.
In 1967 Marshall married Emily Edge and they lived in Columbus, Georgia. He worked for Columbus Iron Works for nine years. They moved to New York City where he took a marketing and sales job with Monsanto Company for the next three years. His love for sales carried on as they soon moved back to Georgia, relocating in Atlanta where he formed Marshall Morton Inc, a corporate gift and incentive sales company. In 1976, He and Emily then moved to LaGrange, Georgia where they raised their two children, Marshall Morton III and Florence Edge Matter. He had resided in LaGrange until his death.
He was a former member of Highland Country Club and on its Board of Governors. He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange where he served as a Deacon.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Emily Edge Morton and their children, Marshall Morton III of Columbia, SC and Florence Morton Matter ( Herbert) of Wilmington, Delaware. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Steven Louis Matter II, Sutton Edge Matter, Lydia Johnston Morton and Marshall Morton IV.
A family service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Feb. 16. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of LaGrange.
