For years, Allen Santos has always had the dream of owning a woodworking shop and business to create and build. On Friday, Allen saw that dream come true.

Allen and his wife Britney, surrounded by their children, friends and LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce members cut the ribbon to their new business The Lazy Lizard.

“After spending nearly 18 years in the remodeling industry, the opportunity presented itself to pursue his passion of woodworking,” Britney said. “We began to research and make a business plan. Everything just started falling into place.”

All furniture is hand crafted with regionally sourced lumber from responsibly managed lumber mills. Additionally, all of Lazy Lizard’s signature series furniture is made from abundant North American hardwoods such as Cherry, Maple, Oak, Walnut and Hickory.

“Because we are so involved in all aspects of our kids’ lives, we wanted to own our own business in order to have the liberty to go to school functions and coach the kids’ sports teams,” Britney said. “We honestly, thought it would be a few years before we’d be able to make the move to start something. Allen was a business owner in the early 2000s. When the recession hit in 2007-2008, he had to go to work for someone else. Hard work, persistence and God’s blessing have led to this opportunity.”

If it’s made of wood, the Santos family can build it.

“We build anything from farm tables, Adirondack chairs, swings, and gliders, yard and porch swings, bed swings and much more,” Britney said. “Our business is unique because our products are all hand-crafted furniture. The material has all locally sourced wood.”

Along with offering fully customizable projects, they also offer military and first responder discounts.

“We are excited to build a brand and legacy for our family,” Britney said. “We also are excited to give back to our community. We want to be able to donate to the local schools and other local organizations.”

Britney said their mission is to be environmentally conscious and, every day, have a goal to inspire others in the furniture industry to work towards a more sustainable furniture while building and selling high-quality furniture that families can enjoy for a lifetime.

“We want to be involved in any activity that is supporting other local small businesses and improving the community,” Britney added. “Because we are a small, family-run business, we are proud to say that all of our furniture is crafted in LaGrange, Georgia. Our beautiful, natural wood furniture is inspired by Georgia’s diverse landscape and unique way of life, which provides many of our hardwood materials. It’s where we live and work, and it’s what we know. Each piece is built with honest, quality craftsmanship and marked at fair price.”

Lazy Lizard is located at 109 Cleveland Drive in LaGrange and open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Customers can also reach them (706) 881-8687.
