AMERICUS – The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors outlasted Thomas Jefferson 45-43 to win the GISA Class A state championship on Saturday.

Kelsey Cotton led the Lady Warriors with 17 points, Ivey Portis added 14 points, and Kayla McBride chipped in with seven points.

Thomas Jefferson made it interesting after falling behind by nine points early in the fourth quarter, but LaGrange Academy kept its poise and held on for the win.

“We’ve been working for this since I was here in the eighth grade,” said Portis. “To finally all be able to play together and come out with a win, it was spectacular.”
