With sunny skies and higher temperatures set for the weekend, the community will have no shortage of things to do out of the house. 

As part of Lafayette Theatre Company’s (LTC) 2020-2021 season, Lafayette Society for Performing Arts (LSPA) is presenting “Don’t Dress for Dinner” from March 11-20, 2021, in the LTC’s Black Box Theatre on Bull Street.

The show was written by Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon and will begin Friday night at 7:30 p.m., Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

“Don’t Dress for Dinner,” directed by Kevin Goodson, is a two-act play written by French playwright Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon. Set in the French countryside, the farcical performance centers around a happily married couple, Bernard and Jacqueline, both of whom just happen to have secret lovers. Hijinks unfold as Bernard’s plans for an intimate weekend with his Parisian mistress become convoluted.

‘“Don’t Dress for Dinner’ is the slapstick comedy gem in our 2020-2021 production season. It’s a purposefully ridiculous production full of quick wit, fast-flowing jokes and over-the-top situations that tickle audiences pink,” Goodson said in a press release. “One of the powers of theater is its ability to uplift people. With the current climate, we wanted to offer people an escape full of comfort and laughter.”

Guests are invited to wear their best pajamas for the show, and LSPA staff will reward the guest deemed to have on the best pajamas prior to the performance.

Tickets for the show can be purchased individually ($18 adults/$13 students) or as tables of four seats, each for $75. To accommodate for each show’s custom seating chart, tickets will be served on a first come, first serve basis in accordance to COVID-19 regulations. Seating will be limited to 52 tickets per show.

On Friday, Hillside Montessori students, directed by professors and former Broadway actors, Brenda Hamilton and Tim Fitz-Gerald, will perform Shrek the Musical, Jr. at Sweetland Amphitheatre. Hills and Dales Estate will host an Easter workshop on Saturday at 10 a.m. Attendees will decorate their own masterpieces of panoramic sugar eggs with icing and whimsical miniatures. The workshop is $30 per person and includes supplies and refreshments. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Call (706) 882-3242 or email info@hillsanddales.org to register. Healing Hearts, a newly-formed organization, is hosting a three-mile run Saturday to raise money for a few local families in need. The workout includes four .75 mile runs in between stations where you do small intervals of workouts like air squats, planks and burpees.

The cost is a $20 donation to participate and donations will go toward families and individuals who are facing unexpected medical financial difficulties during the pandemic. The run begins at the George Harris Baseball Complex at 8 a.m.
