LaGrange track teams take top spots

LaGrange High’s boys’ and girls’ track-and-field teams earned top honors at the LaGrange Toyota Granger Invitational that was held on Thursday at the Whitesville Road track complex.

In the girls’ race, which featured seven teams, LaGrange placed first with 216 points, and Heard County was second with 164 points.

Callaway was third with 66 points followed by Troup (57 points), Brookstone (56 points), Greenville (35 points) and Manchester (13 points).

In the boys’ race, LaGrange dominated the competition and finished first with 252 and Heard County (137 points), Callaway (124 points), Troup (67 points), Brookstone (11 points) and Greenville (one point) rounded out the field.

“I told my teammates, we’re getting this win today,” said LaGrange’s Kale Gibbs, who earned four first-place medals, including one in the 100-meter dash. “We were here to win this meet.”

LaGrange’s girls’ team earned eight first-place finishes in the individual and relay events.

Zamya Rhaney finished the day with four first-place medals, while her twin sister Zanay Rhaney had three top finishes.

LaGrange’s boys’ team had 11 first-place finishers. Kale Gibbs and Aaron Fritchley were LaGrange’s top performers with four first-place finishes apiece in the individual and relay races.

Troup’s first-place finishers were Taylor Ross-Johnson and Zay Moreland, and Callaway got wins from Niakoe Burks, Osiris Rivas and Dillion Stephens.

There was also a middle-school competition, with Gardner Newman taking the top spot in the girls’ race, and Heard County placing first on the boys’ side.
