County Manager Eric Mosley asked the Troup County Commission Thursday to fill the open assistant manager position, which has been open since he was named county manager in November 2018.

“My request to you guys would be to allow me to lift the hiring freeze so we can move forward with the hiring of an assistant county manager,” Mosley said.

Mosley noted that he believes the position will be a bit different than the position he held when hired as assistant manager in January 2018. Tod Tentler was the county manager at that time.

“My position involved supervision of departments. What we really need now is somebody that can work on special projects and get into the weeds a bit and let me spend more time in the clouds,” Mosley said. “It would help me a lot to add this position. We have a lot of critical projects that are on the horizon, and it would be great to have someone in this role who could fill that need.”

Mosley said he’d also like that person to dig into policies and procedures and focus on ways the county could be more efficient.

“At this point, the position would not have direct supervision over departments,” Mosley said in response to Commissioner Ellis Cadenhead.

Mosley mentioned some of the upcoming projects, such as the new Oakfuskee Conservation Center at Pyne Road Park, which the assistant county manager could focus on.

“Are you looking for an engineering-type person or a little bit of everything?” Cadenhead asked.

Mosley said a little bit of everything, but previous management experience would be a positive.

The commission is expected to vote on the request at its meeting on Tuesday.
