This Sunday marks the holiest day of the calendar. It is when all faithful Christians believe that Christ rose from the tomb.

Easter is also one of the major holidays that bring families together to worship and celebrate together.

Last year, Easter looked dramatically different. Traditional Easter egg hunts were canceled and in-person church services were not allowed. Those services moved online, mostly to Facebook or YoutTube.

This year, however, churchgoers are likely to pack the pews once again and they should, while continuing to practice social distancing and wearing a mask.

With the number of vaccinations on the rise and the positive case rates slowing, it is not a time to become complacent. After all, we saw numbers skyrocket after the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday. Easter is similar to those in that they bring family and friends together in a confined space for an Easter meal.

As of this writing, Troup County has amassed 5,792 positive cases and 178 deaths. In the past 14 days, the county has only registered 153 cases.

We would love to see that at zero, but given what we witnessed over the summer that number is a step in the right direction.

However you and your family celebrate the Easter holiday, by all means do so, but we urge you to remain cautious as we are all aware of how quickly the virus can spike.
