A section of I-85 northbound was shut down for more than hour Monday night while the Georgia State Patrol and Troup County Sheriff’s Office investigated a bomb threat.

According to GSP Post 2 Commander Scott Jeter, troopers received a lookout for a passenger bus that was traveling north on I-85 from the Alabama/Georgia State Line. A passenger of the bus called the bus company and advised them that their friend, who was also on the bus, had a bomb and planned to detonate it.

Jeter said that Post 2 troopers made a traffic stop on I-85 Northbound near the 24-mile marker.

All passengers were identified and none of them matched the name given by the bus company.

TCSO deployed a bomb dog and Post 2 troopers and deputies searched the bus.

According to Jeter, no device was found on the bus or within any of the bags.

The bus was released and the interstate was reopened at approximately 7:45 p.m.
