Callaway soccer teams top Haralson

TALLAPOOSA – The Callaway Lady Cavaliers, thanks to an 8-1 road win over Haralson County on Tuesday, will be at home for the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

Haralson County scored first, but Callaway dominated the remainder of the game to finish with a 3-3 Region 5-AA record.

Callaway and Temple finished tied for second place in the region, but the tie-breaker went to the Lady Cavaliers.

In order to win the tie-breaker, Callaway couldn’t allow more than one goal against Haralson County, and it accomplished that.

Marisa Acevedo led the Callaway offensive effort with four goals, Keeley McGuffin added three goals, and Mary Kate Baswell had one goal.

In the boys’ game, Callaway outlasted Haralson County 3-0 to wrap up the number three spot in Region 5-AA. Callaway will be on the road for the first round of the state playoffs.

Greyson Batchelor, Journee Jordan and Blake Eubanks each scored for Callaway.

Callaway will host Chattahoochee County on Tuesday.
