Troup tennis teams headed to state

COLUMBUS – The Troup High tennis teams are headed to state.

Competing in the Region 2-AAAA tennis tournament on Tuesday at Cooper Creek, Troup’s boys’ team earned a third-place finish, while the girls’ team placed fourth.

Both Troup’s teams will travel to Savannah next week for the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament.

In the region tournament, Troup’s boys’ team lost to LaGrange in the semifinals before handling Shaw in the third-place match.

After losing to LaGrange 5-0, Troup bounced back to beat Shaw 5-0. Winners for Troup were Hiram King (number one singles), Zach Taylor (number two singles) and Jacob Bearden (number three singles).

Also winning for Troup were Hayes Gill and Wesley Bartlett (number one doubles) and Isaac Andrews and Ty Spradlin (number one doubles).

Against LaGrange, it was mostly the same lineup, although Daniel Cho played at number three singles.

Troup’s girls’ team fell to Columbus in its semifinal match, and it lost to Shaw in the third-place match.

Playing for Troup against Shaw were Maley McDonald (number one singles), Anna Barantine (number two singles), Skylar Allen (number three singles), Anna Scott and Zoe Giddens (number one doubles) and Caroline Galyon and Mary Smith (number two doubles).

In the Columbus match, it was mostly the same lineup, with Azia Meriweather getting the nod at number three singles.
