We’ve written a couple of times recently about the importance of picking up trash at West Point Lake.

But no one has taken it more seriously recently than Captain Nathan Taylor with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office. Taylor decided to take matters into his own hands recently, as he organized staff members, officers and inmates to pick up litter at the lake.

It’s easy to sit back and complain about the trash at the lake or to post on Facebook.

We see it all the time.

The post usually says something like: “Someone should do something about this!”

Taylor didn’t take that route. Instead, he asked Sheriff James Woodruff if he could organize the cleanup and was granted permission to try to gather volunteers to help out.

We applaud Taylor’s initiative and thank him for caring about the lake. We also appreciate all of the volunteers who took time out of their life to help out.

What if we all did that? Rather than jump on social media to complain, what if we figured out ways to solve our community’s problems.

Imagine that. We thank Taylor for his initiative and hope others will take a cue from him.
