The Troup Tigers have been flawless against their Region 2-AAAA opponents this season.

If they continue that trend against the rival LaGrange Grangers on Friday, they’ll take a huge step forward in their quest for a region championship.

Troup (21-3), which saw its 14-game winning streak end with Tuesday’s road loss to Central-Phenix City, will bring an 8-0 region record into Friday’s game at LaGrange.

Troup will host LaGrange on Monday before finishing its region schedule with two games against Jordan next week.

LaGrange, which completes its region schedule with two games against Hardaway next week, is 7-1 in the region, so it would move into first place with two wins over Troup.

It has been a spectacular season for Troup, which has won 20 of its past 21 games, including all eight of its region games.

A strength of Troup’s team this season has been a pitching staff that has been shutting down opposing offenses.

Before the 9-3 loss to Central-Phenix City, Troup hadn’t given up more than two runs in eight straight games.

Overall, Troup has surrendered three or fewer runs in 19 of its 24 games this season.

Brett Haynes, Devon Murphy and Daniel Martin have started most of the big games this season, and they’ve been outstanding.

During two key wins over Columbus in March, Martin, Murphy and Haynes gave up a combined two earned runs.

Ethan Morton has also started a handful of games and has been a shut-down pitcher out of the bullpen, and Colton Webb and Tripp Cummings have also pitched well for Troup.

The pitchers are backed up by a defense that has been superb all season.

“It’s definitely reassuring, knowing if they square it up my guys are going to be there to pick it up, and keep us in the ballgame,” Morton said after throwing two scoreless innings in a win over Shaw.

Troup has also gotten the job done offensively, averaging more than eight runs per game.

Haynes has settled into the leadoff spot, and Murphy, Reed Morris, Josh McDonald, Tre Mosley, Morton, Martin, Webb and Mason Atkinson round out the lineup.

In a 3-1 win over Glenwood on Monday, Morris hit a three-run home run.
