Callaway Elementary School Principal Christina Grace will be the Troup County School System’s first ever literary facilitator for students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Grace was officially assigned the position during Thursday night’s school board meeting.

“Literacy development is extremely important in Troup County. Mrs. Grace will be our first-ever literacy facilitator for students in kindergarten through grade 5. She will support teachers on all elementary campuses through a coaching model focused on effective implementation of newly purchased literacy curriculum materials, data analysis, and instructional strategies,” said Assistant Superintendent Penny Johnson. “This position is in-line with our L4GA grant (Literacy for Learning, Living, and Leading in Georgia) that provides $6.5M for the school system to directly impact literacy. Thanks to this grant, there will be three Literacy Facilitators who will work to build reading and comprehension skills for students in Troup County. The other two will be focused on birth through age five and students in grades 6 through 12. Mrs. Grace will be a valuable resource for our elementary principals by serving as a liaison between the schools and our various community partners.”

According to previous reporting by the LDN, Grace has spent 26 years in education in the Troup County School System.

She served as Rosemont Elementary School’s principal for two years, then has spent three years at Callaway Elementary School’s principal.
